Nitrokémia Chemical Plc. was awarded the title chemical park in 1998. The main objective of setting up the Fűzfő Industrial Park was to provide the most essential services for the companies operating on the site of Nitrokémia Rt., as well as to redevelop the properties so that the emissions from chemical activities to the environment are significantly reduced. Furthermore, by using these assets, demand for employment and services should rise.

In addition to the traditional technologies such as chemical, plastic industries, gunpowder and ammunition production, a variety of other service companies is also operating on the industrial estate. Besides road and rail transport, logistics companies offering shipment and warehousing services, design, contracting and maintenance companies, numerous other services like occupational health, security, and labour safety, etc. are available.
The industrial estate lying in the administration area of Balatonfűzfő, Litér and Királyszentistván is supplied with adequate industrial infrastructure. The upgraded sewage treatment facility is suitable for treating acid, alkaline and other wastewater containing high amounts of organic substances and nitrogen; an incinerator for hazardous waste is in operation, a landfill to accommodate hazardous waste has been built as part of Nitrokémia Zrt environmental remediation project, and the regional solid waste treatment facility will be sited in the park.
A region facing serious employment problems cannot disregard the high-value resources and opportunities that Fűzfő and its environs possess, including
  • the highly diverse industrial infrastructure with a redevelopment potential such as the M-8 motorway to be constructed in the near future, whose preparations and partial construction are already under way,
  • advances in environment focused attitude which give priority to the development and application of environment protection technologies,
  • training of experts holding secondary and college degrees to ensure the professional and reliable operation of chemical and engineering technologies.
The area of Fűzfő Industrial Park increased – pursuant to a contract amendment on 12 November 2008 by the Ministry for National Development and Economy – from 141 hectares to 459,6367 hectares. This area includes the industrial areas of Balatonfűzfő, Litér and Királyszentistván. Of the businesses having property and operating in the industrial zone, 80 (92 %) expressed their intention to join the park.
At the initiative of Nitrokémia Zrt, the Fűzfő Industry Park Club, a civic advocacy group, was established and set out to adopt the goals laid down in its Charters.
